MY WORLD - FEATURE IN BRIGITTE MAGAZINE

In September 2023, BRIGITTE (SWITZERLAND), Nr. 19 published a feature about my new life in Tel Aviv-Jaffa and this blog. Here is the English translation of the German original.

"My Blog KAVALYA DHYAN - MILESTONES ON MY YOGA JOURNEY - combines my love for pictures, words and Yoga."

Martina Strul, 2007 in Pushkar shortly after Yoga saved her life the first time

Martina Strul followed her heart by moving to the White City. She practices and teaches yoga (also virtually, by the way) and takes photographs.

Kavalya Dhyan is the spiritual name Martina Strul was given due to the numerology of her date of birth. Martina is Swiss, a photographer (she also photographed me for the editorial) and has been living in her favourite city Tel Aviv-Jaffa since last summer.

Why Tel Aviv-Jaffa?

I like the culture of debate and the fact that people are allowed to have different opinions without falling out. Apart from the climate and the high quality food culture, I like the savoir- and laisser-vivre attitude of the Tel avivians, and the fact that people stand up for their rights, as it is currently happening in protests against the Netanyahu government.

What is your passion?

My blog "KAVALYA DHYAN - MILESTONES ON MY YOGA JOURNEY combines my love for pictures, words and Yoga. Photography inspires me, writing grounds me - yoga does both.

What is your purpose with the blog?

I want to help others to help themselves, just as yoga has helped me. In fact, it has saved my life twice. The first time in 2007 in Pushkar - when I was blessed by meeting the man of my life and a swami in the Rajasthani desert - my life took a surprising turn. The second time at the end of 2019, when I revitalised and discovered my body, mind and soul thanks to Kundalini Yoga through my training as a children's yoga teacher.

What book are you reading right now?

BRAVE NEW WORLD by Aldous Huxley. Because it was banned in England, I wanted to read it again.

What is encouraging you?

When I hug my two men in a "family hug". When I sit on my yoga mat in the morning and forget the world for a session. When the blue hour transforms Tel Aviv-Yafo in its nightly beauty. When clients are happy about the photos I have taken. When I receive feedback from yoga students about how their yoga practice has changed their lives. When I walk on the beach in silence and the vastness of the sea gives me space.

Which music touches you?

The song PRAYER OF THE MOTHERS by Yael Deckelbaum, behind which there is a whole project that everyone should know and which shows once again that it is the women/mothers who will save the world.

Kavalya Dhyan is my spiritual name. It was given to me according to the numerology of my birth date. I chose to get it because it helps me to connect to the infinite part of me -

my soul.
