Born and bred in Switzerland, Natascha followed a call to India in the age of 21. What began as a journey evolved into a lifestyle: She continued traveling for a total of 8 years, exploring India, Malaysia, Israel, Australia, and the USA. During this transformative time, she was influenced by her meetings with the Dalai Lama her visits to Indian ashrams and the feeling to be torn between the spiritual and earthy realms. Meanwhile she has the experience of 17 years of teaching Yoga and nearly a decade of organizing retreats.

Kavalya Dhyan (KD): Who are you?

Natascha: This is a question that has been with me my entire life! Who am I? What roles do I play in this life? Which soul energies do I embody? I would say: I simply AM… the essence of being, resonating with the vibration of existence. However, if you are asking from an earthly perspective: I am an awakened spirit, full of questions and seeking their answers. By doing so, I dive very deep. I love the depth and the darkness. I am fascinated by people. I enjoy listening to their stories, and I am a good listener, able to delve deeply... I have often seen how healing can occur naturally... through the power of a profound conversation that illuminates a shadow aspect. This is something I have been doing for as long as I can remember, even as a child.

KD: You mentioned that you love the darkness. In the sense that through the darkness you’ll reach the light?

Natascha: I love the light and the darkness equally, these two polarities are interdependent – as we know it from the concept of Yin & Yang. In today's yoga community, I feel that darkness doesn't receive the same focus as light. While this might seem appealing, it's like a plant without roots; it will fall at the first storm. This is why I value darkness — it's an integral part of life. I don't actively seek it, but I believe that it's through darkness that we truly experience light. Like the water lily: Beyond the appealing flower, the root is in the darkness, full of mud. From my point of view, life's purpose lies in this ongoing dance of delving into darkness and transforming it into light.

KD: How did you first get in touch with Yoga?

Natascha: At 21, I traveled to India without any prior knowledge of Yoga, the Dalai Lama, or similar topics. I felt a calling and unexpectedly met the Dalai Lama. Attending his lectures led me to start meditating, and for the first time, I experienced a sense of coming home. Afterward, I spent time in various ashrams, where I discovered a completely new world through breath and bodywork. I was amazed — how could I feel at home at the age of 21?

This new lifestyle clashed with my previous one, which was more about Sex, Drugs, and Rock 'n' Roll. For a while I alternated between these two worlds. While in an ashram, I would miss my wild life, smoking weed, and exploring my freedom, including sexually. But in exploring myself this way, I felt guilty and bad for not maintaining a healthy or spiritual lifestyle.

It wasn't until I learned through Tantra and Cantienica Yoga that everything can be divine if it involves consciousness, that I realized there was no need to separate these worlds; they are both parts of life. It's about living life with awareness. I no longer need to DO Yoga; I AM Yoga. It's a significant difference.

KD: So your “initiation to spirituality" was your trip to India?

Natascha: My trip to India was transformative, but perhaps my initial encounter with another dimension occurred when I was reading Elisabeth Kübler-Ross's first book, “On Death And Dying.” I was 17 at the time, and it sparked my interest in reading numerous books about Near-Death Experiences. This helped me make sense of what I had heard in church but couldn't quite connect with. For me Elisabeth Kübler-Ross was able to connect the dots between the spiritual and earthly realms. She and her books left a deep imprint in my life.

KD: Can you please explain a bit more about Cantienica Yoga?

Natascha: It is a wonderful approach to align the body in a way that it serves us again. By using deep tissue muscular alignment, we can create space in previously blocked areas of the body while also strengthening it. It is a lot about identifying patterns within the body. Previously, I assumed that certain pains were just a given, but by focusing our awareness on them, we can transform them. We often mimic our parents' behaviors... For example: My father had a deformed back... so we tend to accept it as inevitable... but the important question to ask is: Why do I also round my back?

KD: You look back to 30 years of your Yoga journey, what were your personal milestones on that path?

Natascha: Each time I encountered darkness or reached my lowest point, I was shown something beyond what can be explained on the earthly plane. These experiences taught me that healing can occur on multiple dimensions and that it can all happen within myself. Usually these experiences were inspired by an encounter with someone who provided me with a new perspective. I spent years traveling with my backpack, I had a lot of time and space for myself. Now that I live in Switzerland, I’d say what keeps me exploring is the connection to four women, each inspiring me in different ways. They all have the ability to reflect my patterns, continually revealing my blind spots and allowing me to grow.

KD: The world has changed a lot in the last five years how have you experienced that change?

Natascha: I believe people have developed a new awareness. Personally, I've noticed that my way of speaking is now better understood than in the past. Generally, I observe that things are happening much more quickly, energetically. Multidimensionality is no longer a utopian concept for many.

Over the past decade, I've been offering Yoga retreats and doing a lot of shadow work. When I first started, it would take people up to two days to engage in the healing process. In recent years, I've noticed it happens much faster, sometimes in just a few minutes. I think this is because they are more ready to heal than they used to be.

KD: How has your way of teaching changed?

Natascha: I have become more gentle. It doesn't take much to bring issues to light. I've realized that simply being present and holding space can be sufficient. It seems that people once attended yoga retreats to take a break, to recharge, to get healed. However, in my retreats now, it feels like they come for a profound confrontation with their inner selves, they have realized on their own that they are there to heal THEMSELVES.

In terms of teaching Yoga classes, I have experienced a significant change: Since the pandemic I mainly teach outside in nature.

KD: Wow, in Switzerland that can be very cold and wet, no?

Natascha: Yes, even when there is snow, hail or rain - we practice outside.

KD: What is your message for the world?

Natascha: Don’t swim with or against the stream, BE the stream!
